He's a grumpy old man in an industry with an increasing (but still minority) fraction of women in important positions. Its' quite common for such people to perceive the shift in relation to "status quo", rather than in an absolute sense.

And didn't John Humphreys or someone say something similar a couple of years ago?

It would indeed. Although I can't help wondering if whoever wrote the article simply went direct to Frostrup because it made a nice "boyz v. girlz" story. It would be genuinely interesting to see other prominent male BBC employees be asked whether they agreed with Paxo.
